Bath & North East Somerset Council has joined the nation in mourning, following the death of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

The Union Flag is flying at half-mast at the Bath Guildhall, Keynsham Memorial Gardens and Midsomer Norton Library and Information Service (formerly The Hollies) as a mark of respect.

Councillor Andrew Furse, Chair of Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: "On behalf of the council, and the people of Bath and North East Somerset, I would like to express our deepest sympathy to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family.

"We are truly saddened to learn of the death of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who visited our area on a number of occasions and was much admired by the people of Bath and North East Somerset.

"As well as being a respected member of the Royal Family we must remember that at heart, HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and it is with his family that our thoughts lie at this difficult time. We hope and pray that they will find comfort and strength in each other – and through our own words of respect and remembrance. Anyone wishing to pay tribute to HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, is encouraged to join others in doing so in the Royal online book of condolence."

Due to Covid-19 rules, residents are reminded to adhere to the current restrictions and not join any mass gatherings or marks of respect.

The council will not be opening books of condolence at council buildings, but would ask those wishing to pay their respects to go the Royal online book of condolence which will be made available HERE: the condolence book

Floral tributes can be left at Parade Gardens, Bath, Keynsham Memorial Gardens and the Hollies Garden, Midsomer Norton. Please observe social distancing.
