Bring on the bacon : Somerset Farmers Market in Midsomer returns this Saturday with some specials

By Susie Watkins 3rd Feb 2021

It is back.

After the winter chills, the Somerset Farmers Market returns this coming Saturday to The Hollies in Midsomer Norton.

The team behind the market say that they are hoping that some new names and faces will bring a little warmth and colour to a chilly grey February 6.

A little tongue in cheek the Somerset Markets crew say they want to bring great local food and drink for you to enjoy at home, to make up for the lack of cafes and restaurants and nights out...do you even remember nights out?"

First up : Friary Drinks and The Still Sisters are based in Frome (www.friarydrinks.co.uk) and have been producing their own gins, vodkas ,rums & cocktails since 1996.

Wookey goat Farm are currently waiting for their pregnant goats to kid and so have no milk to make cheese at the moment, so the Bath Soft Cheese Company is invited to be the cheese guests.

Then the market will be introducing 'Pig Patch Pigs' from near Wells. This will be Carly's first farmers market selling pork products from her Oxford Sandy Blacks a traditional breed of pig recently brought back from near extinction and famed for the quality of its meat known as the Plum Pudding of Pigs.

Carly told Nub News : " Breeding and rearing pigs is a rewarding experience, they all have such individual personalities, seeing them live stress free life's producing quality local meat from happy pigs whilst supporting a rare breed. "

Another new stall will be 'Pops Thai Kitchen' and we can look forward to traditional Thai food being cooked on the day using Somerset ingredients for you to enjoy at home....a treat indeed.
