Ready for Christmas ? Not the Midsomer Norton Town Hall

Plans for a big Christmas bash have been revealed for Midsomer Norton, but, sadly, they will not include any reindeer.

At the latest Midsomer Norton Town Council meeting there was an update on the festive celebrations, with news there will be Santa (of course) music, a Christmas tree and lights down the High Street, even the possibility of some snow, but the level of antlers will be set at zero.

It was hoped that the town would be able to have some hooved friends to kick off the Christmas season on November 30, but Nub News understands that the necessary licence for handling such livestock was not able to be secured in time. Santa will just have to rely on a different kind of horse power, probably arriving by float.

The Christmas big event will hopefully be across the whole High Street, with travelling minstrels, a carol service and the shops all been invited to get involved.

The meeting on October 2 was also told that the lights in Midsomer Norton will be turned on in a so-called soft switch on, so each of the 21 motifs along the main street not coming on at one sudden blaze of light. This is very much cheaper option.

The Christmas event will be on November 30 with a stage at the Hollies and live music from 5pm until 7pm.

Cllr Martyn Plant said there was still time to get involved and if residents could offer help or ideas for local entertainers to get in touch with the Town Trust.

There was some applause and cheers with news that some of the costs for celebrating are lower than first forecast.

Cllr Plant, who is also the Deputy Mayor, also revealed that an earlier hope that celebrations might include something in the new space at the Town Hall were now being written off. It was hoped that the building, which is under renovation, may have been used for some events.

They are also still on the hunt for a local 'celebrity' to turn on the Christmas Tree lights.
