Somer Valley FM, the local radio station for North East Somerset, based in Midsomer Norton, celebrated Local Radio Day on Friday 15 October.

The Breakfast Team visited Muffins, Jacarandas and the Midsomer Craft Shop. With the theme of Love Your Place, shop keepers and passing members of the public were asked their thoughts on what and where they loved.

'Bed was a big winner' Richard Burgess, Station Manager, commented, 'it was a definite favourite on people's loved places! We had such a great reaction being out and about along our High Street. I'm very grateful so many of our local residents were happy to talk to us'.

With Jo and Pete on the High Street, and Seb presenting the show from the studio, interviews were held, remotely edited, uploaded, and played on The Breakfast Show within 10 minutes.

'We are the only local radio station in North East Somerset. A number of people commented on listening to our shows, including Breakfast, which made Jo's day! For Local Radio Day we broadcast 18 hours of fresh and new special shows. If you've not listened before, lend us your ears when you tune in to radio. I'm confident you'll find shows and presenters you'll like', Richard added.

All shows broadcast on the day are available to listen again, on demand. Go to Somer Valley FM's website, find the details on the front page, along with click-through to listen on demand.

'We have over 60 volunteers at our station; 15 were involved with putting the day together', Richard continued, 'I'm very fortunate to be able to call upon such a great team of people, freely giving up their time and effort for our day'

And if this has whetted anyone's appetite to be involved with local radio, presenting, producing, sourcing stories – get in touch.
