Head to the Roman Baths and Victoria Art Gallery this February half-term for a fun-filled week packed with activities for the whole family.
Councillor Paul Roper, Cabinet Member for Economic & Cultural Sustainable Development, said: "There's a whole heap of activities for visitors of all ages in our museums this half-term, from the brilliant Ladybird Books exhibition at the Victoria Art Gallery, to craft sessions, family trails and more. Join us for an unforgettable half-term filled with history, art, books and family fun!"
At the Roman Baths, young visitors can find out what it was like to be a child in Roman times. Did Roman children go to school and what did they play with? Join one of the daily craft sessions (Monday-Friday) to find out more and make a bulla – a locket that Roman children wore around their necks to protect them from evil spirits.
Pick up one of the free spotting trails and explore the historic site and collection with the help of some friendly Roman characters. There are two trails available, tailored for younger and older children.
Don't miss the brand-new Roman Baths activity book for children, available in the Roman Baths Shop (£5), which explains the history of the Roman Baths in an easy to understand way for children aged seven to 11.
The colourful book is filled with interactive games, activities and stickers – perfect for kids to continue their interest in all things Roman when they get home.
At the Victoria Art Gallery, visitors of all generations will enjoy the The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Book Artists exhibition, which features hundreds of vintage Ladybird books and original artworks from 1940 to 1975, as well as a special 'Coco the Caravan' reading snug for children.
There's a free ladybird trail, which includes animals and vehicles for children to spot in the exhibition plus ladybird-themed colouring and activities. Hands-on family craft sessions will run from Tuesday to Friday, 10.30am-2pm, where kids can create a ladybird with moving wings, and learn all about the ladybird lifecycle.
Roman Baths activity sessions are included in the admission price; Victoria Art Gallery sessions are free to all but the Ladybird Books exhibition is ticketed. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
