The rivers authorities have warned of flooding around Midsomer Norton as levels are forecast to rise at the Midford river gauge as a result of heavy and persistent rainfall.

There are warning of possible flooding for Monkton Combe School playing fields and the area around Thicketmead Bridge in Midsomer Norton. Further heavy showers are forecast today and Friday which may cause levels to rise even further.

On their site, officials warn: "We expect river levels to remain high until the weekend. Our incident response staff are checking defences and clearing weed screens. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. "
