The 1st Midsomer Norton Scouts fundraising campaign for their Big Roof Appeal continued on Saturday night with a successful charity Bingo and raffle evening.

With tables of donated prizes up for grabs, hot food, dabbers and refreshments on sale, around eighty people supported the event which raised nearly £500 to go towards funding essential roof repairs for their hall on Radstock Road. The evening was so well received, plans are already underway to hold more in future.

This latest Scouts fundraising night follows a busy summer for the Scouts with a successful tombola at the Midsomer Norton Town Fayre and children undertaking sponsored activities throughout the holidays such as litter picking.

Every week 1st Midsomer Norton Scout educates and entertains around 150 people (young members, leaders and helpers), developing skills for life on their scouting journey.

In recent years there have been attempts to patch-repair the hall roof but the time has come when investment is needed so all the fun of scouting can continue without needing strategically placed buckets and frequent mopping. When the roof is watertight once more, the Scouts plan to make the hall available as a community resource when they're not running scouting activities.

Attending with his family, the Mayor of Midsomer Norton Cllr Gordon Mackay had the honour of drawing the first raffle ticket.

"My eldest two boys are in Scouts and Cubs respectively; I think it's so important to have community groups like these in Midsomer Norton. My biggest thanks to the volunteer leaders who give so much of their time, it's an incredible effort. I wish their Big Roof Appeal every success."
