The Midsomer Norton group now have a new oven thanks to a generous donor

A generous good donor, who wants to remain anonymous, has given a new oven to the local Midsomer Norton scout group who had theirs stolen at the weekend.

So now the group, which meets on the High Street, is fundraising for a secure door which they hope will deter other thieves.

Over ten generous donors have already pledged nearly £300 to that fundraising.

The good Samaritan is a parent of one of the many children who go to sessions in the hall, but is too modest to give their name.

The scouting group is hugely busy, they currently have two beaver colonies, two cub packs, two scout troops and an explorer section, so scores of youngsters were hit when their newly acquired oven was stolen over the weekend.

Assistant Group Scout Leader Rebecca Mears said: " The new oven was long overdue and only fitted in early October. We raised the funds over a year or so using jumble sales and scout Christmas post fundraising efforts to contribute.

"Last year our Wellow hut was destroyed by vandals and we've only just got that back up and running, it's been a very tough year. "
