Getting ready to start : The Shambles is behind boards

By Susie Watkins 4th Feb 2021

Engineers were out today (February 4) preparing a key development site on the borders of Radstock and Westfield.

The site is being made safe and secure, with boards fencing off the perimeter ready for when works can begin on The Shambles, the site on the brow of the hill behind the old Radco.

It will be a major engineering project, and the team behind the development will be telling Nub News all of their plans and the timetable involved when the plans are finalised.

Meantime they have boarded up the site and revealed some very good news for motorists.

The work scheduled originally would have entailed closing the busy Wells Road for long periods, maybe up to 12 months.

But due to some technical inventiveness, this historic site is being built from the inside out, with scaffolding built up inside the buildings to preserve the engineering integrity. So it is hoped that any road closures will be limited in scope and will only involve closing only a single lane on the busy road, and hopefully just for short limited periods.
