Guide Dogs, a charity which supports blind and partially sighted people, is looking for volunteers in Midsomer Norton.

Guide Dogs' ambition is for a future where every person with sight loss has the confidence and support to live their lives to the full. To fulfil this aim and keep providing free services to those who need it most, Guide Dogs are looking for several volunteers to fill varying roles.

If you enjoy meeting new people and working as a team, you could be a valuable addition to their volunteering team. At the moment, Guide Dogs are looking to start up a new fundraising group which requires:

1) Collection box coordinators who place collection boxes in suitable locations and bank the income every 3 to 6 months

2) Fundraisers who attend and plan local fundraising events and keeping track of what we sell (including our cuddly guide dog toys)

3) Fundraising Group Coordinators to build relationships with local networks, organisations, schools and social groups to host events or to name their own puppy as well as delegate tasks and responsibilities to other volunteers within your fundraising group.

A current volunteer in one of our Somerset fundraising groups said: " It really is extremely fulfilling. I have met so many new people and extended my personal skills (influencing, networking, negotiating) that in turn benefits how I work in my professional life.

"It's also like being part of a big family. It's enjoyable because I am motivated by achievement so every pound we collect more than the last activity makes me want to keep beating my own targets.

"The people I work alongside are super and have welcomed me in as a newcomer. I love sharing my enthusiasm with them and helping them where I can - not always Guide Dog related so I think we've become real friends."
