Half a century old and this Midsomer Norton school recipe for Christmas is still sweet

Forget Nigella, put aside Jamie Oliver, maybe even reconsider whether you need the complications of Mary Berry ...

For fifty years a Midsomer Norton resident has been using the same tried and tested recipe for Christmas cake - which she has just baked again this weekend.

Not so unusual perhaps - but this one was from her school days and painstakingly written down in her exercise book from the former Midsomer Norton Grammar School.

As Jane Ford posted on the social media page Midsomer Norton past history photo booth, the cake is still turning out beautifully.

She along with many other residents who were at the school said that at the time a Mrs Merrett was her cookery teacher.

Well done Mrs Merrett - who needed Fanny Cradock ?
