We all scream for ice cream : How this Midsomer business is bringing joy under lockdown

There really is a sweet spot in this lockdown, at least according to this local business.

And what makes it even sweeter is that while he is out delivering ice cream and goodwill, he is also doing his bit to save the planet, if not the local waistlines.

Daniel Moyse who has been running his own ice cream business for the last two years, started out selling cornets and 99s for someone else, but loved it so much, he branched out alone.

He told Nub News : " I fell in love with the game and just love what I do."

Under both the last and this lockdown, he is now delivering his ice creams and puddings to addresses far and wide. But what is truly remarkable is that he operates from a specially adapted and environmentally friendly van.

Dan said: " The van is very special. It is an eco friendly ice cream van converted for me by my dad. What happens is that unlike other vans it runs mainly from the battery system powered by the solar panels on the roof, that means when I arrive at an event, say for instance at a school I can switch the engine off and it all runs by itself. There are no fumes at all."

Those kind of events are of course now off during the coronavirus lockdown, but it still means that if when he is out on delivery he can be far more planet friendly.

Dan is a big supporter locally. He has dished up free ice creams to a local care home, to local schools and he also supports a lot of community efforts - sponsoring the Chilcompton Under 9's football team with their winter kit. " I try to help as many people as I can because I was helped out when I was a kid. That is what I like to do. When I am out and about I also keep a collection tin in the van for Macmillan Cancer Support."

So how can you get delivery for your sweet spot ?

Find Dan on Facebook by clicking HERE Dan's Ice Creams

or Google, and then if you text across your order he promises to deliver right to the doorstep.

There is a minimum order of ten pounds, but with all the yummy ice creams and puddings on offer, Dan suggests that two homes could always order together.

Dan's business covers all the local areas : Midsomer Norton Peasedown and Radstock, but he also delivers as far afield as Dorset. During the last lockdown he was kept super busy - in one day he delivered a total of 35 orders.

Amazingly Dan himself isn't actually a fan of ice cream - but he has a real taste for one of the puddings he also delivers - sticky toffee pudding. Top seller for him is the Biscoff Waffle with ice cream.

Dan told Nub News : " I am so looking forward to meeting everyone . A second lockdown will be tough on everyone, so I hope to bring over my best service and bring them a little bit of happiness."
