Local crafters asked to join county-wide coronavirus story telling project

Local News by Susie Watkins 4th Mar 2021

A Somerset arts initiative is asking the county's crafters to help create the story of the coronavirus lockdown, as a huge quilt.

All you need to do is create a 21cm x 21cm (8") square textile piece to represent how lockdown has been for you.

It could be simple appliqueÌ, crochet, knitting, print or embroidery and depict a scene or image, text or emblem. It can be as representative and pictorial or as abstract and individual as you like and you can make as many squares as you want.

The Evercreech-based Old Stores Studio will then pull everything together to make a large scale textile artwork to be exhibited at the studio and online at some point in the future.

There is no limit to who can take part, in terms of age and ability and you can submit anonymously or add your name and age and a brief DESCRIPTION of what your square represents and why.

They are particularly keen if you can use any recycled fabrics.

If you want to know more contact them via their social page HERE the Old Stores site

or email [email protected]

The project is being supported by the Open Mental Health team at Spark Somerset.
