The application to open a McDonald's in Midsomer Norton High Street now has a full document addressing potential concerns about littering.

Within the application first put in application there is what they call a McDonald's Litter Management Plan.

Managers will, it is said, walk around the proposed site, the former Argos building in Midsomer, to see where there are possible littering areas.

In the words of the document : Managers should walk local roads, footpaths, parks etc. at different times of the day and evening. Step 2 – Assess Needs Assess the arrangements needed to prevent a build-up of litter. Observe where McDonald's litter is being left and the periods when it builds up. A minimum of 100 metres in all directions around the restaurant should be assessed.

And if that doesn't seem sufficient, the global company also stresses that managers will be expect to review their littering protocol every week.

The company states :

Review the Litter Patrol Plan every 6 months or sooner if there is a major change which may affect litter build-up. For new restaurants review the plan weekly for the first four weeks of trading.

You can see the application and the details on what has been proposed HERE It is still not clear when the decision on whether the plans, formally submitted on September 29, will be given the green light or when that might be.

In that initial application the company, which was for a formal change of use from an existing Class E retail premises - which was the protocol which Argos had been operating under - into a Sui Generis use McDonald's wrote:

The proposal represents a multi-million-pound investment by a national operator in Midsomer Norton and the restaurant is expected to employ more than 120 full and part time staff, which McDonald's seeks to recruit from the local area.

The Argos store on the site has been vacant since March 2020.
