Somer Valley FM has been delivering local radio in the north east Somerset region since 2008.

Now, as part of its tenth anniversary year, it is offering anyone in the locality the chance to come and meet the local radio station.

A special reception is being organised for Thursday 19th September at the Centurion Hotel, Midsomer Norton.

Somer Valley's long-term manager, Dom Chambers, said: "It is fantastic that we have reached ten years but now the focus is very much on what we can offer going forward.

"We have upgraded our technology and have a new team in place to ensure we are a cutting edge contemporary local broadcaster that positively impacts the commercial, community, sporting and charitable life of the region.

"Every year we have a public meeting and we also have a volunteer meeting that elects its own board to influence how the station develops.

"This year we thought we would combine them both. We are inviting anyone from the business, local government, community and charitable sectors to come and meet the people behind the voices of local radio.

"I am delighted to announce that this event is being supported by Truespeed as part of a new partnership with Somer Valley FM."

If you would like to join local dignitaries, business leaders and the local radio team for the reception on Thursday 19th September you can write to Dom Chambers at [email protected] or call 01761 411755.

The evening is by invitation only. The reception will show how the radio station works as a community led enterprise.

Richard Burgess, the chair of Somer Valley FM Volunteers Board, said: "We operate as a support, sounding board and safeguard for our station's ongoing activities and continual development.

"It's an excellent team now, but we welcome anyone within the station who may have an interest in helping us to develop by becoming involved with the Volunteers Board."

Neil Rogers, Truespeed's regional manager, said: "Driven by our community-focused ethos, Truespeed proudly invests in villages with our full fibre infrastructure and community-focused initiatives so they can continue to thrive for generations to come.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with Somer Valley FM, whose passion to support the local community matches ours and work together for the benefit of residents and businesses across the region."

Somer Valley FM's new sales lead, Liam Early, said: "I am excited to be joining the team at a time when this nationally recognised brand of local radio is well placed to build even greater levels of community engagement."

Somer Valley FM can be heard on Smart Speaker, online via the red button below or on 97.5fm.
