Midsomer Norton skatepark : We know there is drug use say police - please tell us when you see problems
Police say that they know that there is drug use and anti social behaviour at the Midsomer skate park.
Midsomer Nub News was contacted by two concerned residents who say there are regular incidents around the park, describing problems there as "rife."
They told us in addition to drug dealing there are problems with speeding cars, motor bikes and scooters, with riders and competing to do wheelies up Gullock Tyning. They have also spotted vandalism at the adjacent Somer Centre and on the Midsomer Town Park entrance wall.
Beat Manager PC George Simpson said: "The local neighbourhood team is aware of ongoing reports of low-level antisocial behaviour and drug use taking place at Midsomer Norton skatepark.
"We'd like to reassure the local community that we do take these issues and their concerns seriously.
"The skatepark and surrounding area is patrolled on a regular basis by PCs and PCSOs. They seek to engage with the facility's users and, where necessary and appropriate, stop searches are carried out.
"As a team we are aware that there has been a recent increase in reports of antisocial behaviour at the skatepark, among other areas, and therefore a decision has been made to increase high-visibility patrols.
"We are grateful to those members of the public who have reported issues to us so we are aware of what is happening, as it is allowing us to take proactive action to tackle problems no community should be subjected to. "
Midsomer Norton Nub News was told that people in the neighbourhood who tackled those responsible for the anti social behaviour have been threatened.
They added : " Most of the users of the skateboard park are good kids it is just a very small minority of youths who mindlessly seem to want to carry on with this sort of behaviour. "
The police added : "We'd like to remind the public that if they witness antisocial behaviour or criminal activity, then please if it is not an emergency report it to us on either 101, via the Avon and Somerset Police website, or through Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
