Plans for a crazy golf course outside the leisure centre in Midsomer Norton will be discussed by Midsomer Norton Town Council at their meeting on Monday (March 4).

The plans are now at an advanced stage, and include the fact that the disused toilet block alongside the leisure centre, previously rumoured to become a coffee stop, will have to be demolished to make way for the course. That part of the proposal has already won the support of the Leisure Team at Bath & North East Somerset Council.

Under the application 24/00115/FUL the specific details are :

"The aim is to regenerate the entire site with a quality finished Adventure Golf course set in soft landscaping, securely protected The existing site is a combination of empty sandy areas redundant play space and the disused toilet block.

"The original timber play equipment was removed as the timber structures had deteriorated with time.

"The disused toilet block remains empty and toilet facilities for the adventure golf course are provided within the leisure centre. Alternative children's play facilities have now been completed in accordance with planning approval 23/00955/FUL

"Replace existing adventure play equipment with new, create foraging area and picnic tables with associated hard and soft landscaping. The demolition of the disused toilet block is required to allow adequate space for the new adventure golf course."

Intriguingly the course itself is intended as a nod to the local heritage - so no windmills or castles?

They say under the design proposal: " This course is designed to celebrate the Victorian coal industrial history of Midsomer Norton and local Somerset areas from the very core of the Earth to the coal brought to its surface - and those men who brought it forth."

The meeting of the Town Council will be at 7pm on March 4 at The Hollies.
