A community-based charity in Peasedown St John has been working hard over the Christmas holidays to support those in need.
The Peasedown Community Trust, set up just after the first lockdown in June 2020 to champion civic pride and celebrate good causes, launched an initiative on December 1st to feed vulnerable families in Peasedown St John.
The scheme saw over 50 villagers fed during the Christmas holidays, many of whom would have gone without otherwise.
Trust Chairman, Gavin Heathcote, said: "We had a lot of requests for Christmas Hampers. So many residents are in need this year due to recently being made unemployed, experiencing a loss of income, or having to self-isolate due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Our volunteer team spent a day before Christmas delivering food hampers to households so they would have something to eat on Christmas Day."
As well as receiving a lot of requests for meals, the Trust also saw a large number of residents donate to the appeal, be it through funding for food donations.
Cllr Karen Walker added:
"It's been moving to hear from families who decided not buy each other gifts this year, but donate to the Peasedown Community Trust Christmas Appeal instead. Their generosity meant we could support even more people in need this Christmas time."
Businesses that provided or sponsored produce for the Christmas Meal initiative were Robert Wilcox at Massey Wilcox Transport LTD, Lynne Bull at The Vending People and also George's Farm Shop.
