Lauren Martin of local law firm Thatcher + Hallam works within the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence team, dealing with many aspects of injury claims, from industrial accidents, slips and trips, road traffic collisions and pedestrian accidents.

Here, Lauren looks at a recent personal injury case that made the national news and explains how a firm such as Thatcher + Hallam can help if you have had an accident in the last three years.

Over to Lauren…..

You may or may not have seen a story about a personal injury claim in the news recently - the high profile County Court case of Mr Wuchner, who had the misfortune of slipping on an Irish Cream beverage (we won't name names!) whilst approaching a British Airways check-in desk.

It is reported that Mr Wuchner suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of the fall and the London County Court awarded £130,000.00 under the Montreal Convention, which imposes a 'strict liability' on companies where passengers have suffered an injury whilst in the process of embarking on international flights.

The Judge has left the door open for Mr Wuchner to attempt to claim further compensation for injury, loss of earnings and other associated losses after his business collapsed 10 months after the accident and allegedly because of the injuries he sustained.

It will be interesting to see how this claim progresses and whether Mr Wuchner will be successful in his further compensation claim.

Cases such as this really highlight the way in which someone's life can change after they have suffered an accident when the company or person(s) responsible for the premises have failed to adequately identify and clean away spills and hazards on the floor.

Companies are insured for reasons such as these, and a law firm that deals with personal injury should always be the first port of call for anyone who has been injured so that an assessment may be made as to whether there is likely merit to a claim.

Claiming compensation can really make a massive difference to the life of anyone who has suffered life-changing injuries, such as Mr Wuchner, and it should never be something that people shy away from when they feel they may be entitled to it.

Thatcher + Hallam are proud to have won high levels of compensation for their clients in their personal injury claims, including for high value complex injuries, Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), traumatic brain injuries and other life altering conditions.
