Planning news in and around Midsomer Norton :
The homeowners of Rose Lawn, in The Street, Compton Martin, 22/02171/FUL have applied to build a single and two storey side extension.
Midsomer Norton Town Council has officially opposed planning application 22/01428/FUL which is an application to convert 55A High Street in Midsomer Norton from a shop, into six self-contained one bedroom apartments. The council objects on the grounds that : " There is no parking included in the application; the change of use will result in loss of retail space for the High Street; the appearance is not in keeping with the High Street; the bins will be stored in a fenced off area in front of the building on the High Street. "
Sun Life Flats LTD put in the application working with Radstock Building Design Service. In the application they state: "The property despite several changes of ownership and partial use of both the ground floor and first floor the building has deteriorated into disrepair. The general condition of this building within this part of the town centre has started to impact on the character and appearance of the conservation area within which it sits."
In the planning application it is stated that there seems to be no interest it as a commercial space, saying : " The property has been advertised with no interest on social media since the present owner acquired it in October 2021. Several local estate agents were approached with the intent on marketing as a commercial property. The consensus being that it would not be a marketable commercial property for them due to its present condition, location and usage allowed and due to its large size, it would require a larger commercial usage than is needed in the town... and its condition which is now very poor."
Conygre House , in Loves Lane, in Farmborough, under 22/01826/NMA have applied for a non-material amendment to application 21/04454/FUL (Construction of a new garage with new pedestrian access from lane).
Planning decisions made by B&NES this week include:
They have refused an application by 120C Charlton Park, in Midsomer Norton, for prior approval to increase the size of the house by way of constructing an additional storey.
They have permitted an application by 26 Hillside Avenue, Midsomer Norton to build a single-storey extension following the demolition of an existing rear single-storey extension.
