Planning news in and around Radstock this week:
Plans for Manor Farm, on Millards Hill, in Welton to expand their provision of education from the existing nursery onwards to creating learning spaces for young adults. Under application 22/02857/ASNCOU there is an application for a change of use from farm buildings into a school.
The site is already working as the Free Rangers Forest School Nursery which has operated from and around Welton Manor Farm house and the adjacent buildings since opening in 2011 (application 09/0141/FUL). That now looks after 72 children between the ages of 6 months and four years, and is supported by 28 staff.
Under the planning application they want, over five years to build six separate classroom bases and a gathering space for whole school functions. Each key stage base would hold a class group of eight children bringing the total maximum capacity of the school to 48 children and young adults.
In the application form the company writes: " Each year we would design and build the next key stage base alongside our families and local community members; making this 'The School That Built Itself.'
But additionally they want to offer education to those post 16 to 25 year olds in the form of a community supported agricultural project and an onsite café . Adding " These work opportunities onsite tie in heavily with our ethos of sustainable and regenerative farming and agriculture across our 27 acres and dovetail nicely with the council's environmental agenda."
