Last week I had the honour of opening the new showroom for Prime Tools, a thriving business on Radstock Road in Midsomer Norton. 

I was hugely impressed by all I saw on my visit and thought it worth highlighting such a wonderful local success story. 

Prime Tools was started thirty-five years ago by owner Julian Candy, originally working out of his garage.  The company now employs seventeen people and exports the best quality professional tools all over the world, with over 27,000 different products available from some of the world's leading manufacturers. 

It was clear that workplace morale is extremely important at Prime Tools and has contributed significantly to the success of the business. Most employees, from director level down, have joined straight from school and then been promoted within the organisation.  This was one of the best working atmospheres that I have encountered when visiting businesses.  I was also impressed by the way to company has utilised the best technological advances whilst still maintaining a traditional approach based on excellent customer service. 

One of the topics we discussed was that I hope that there will be further good news for companies such as Prime Tools, when the new Procurement Bill completes its passage through Parliament.  This is one of the Bills that is my responsibility as Minister for Brexit Opportunities and Government Efficiency.  It will give small and medium businesses greater opportunities to gain government contracts, which will reduce the monopoly currently enjoyed by larger organisations and give better value to the Government. 

Businesses like Prime Tools are the lifeblood of the British economy.  The Government will continue to do all it can to help companies like this prosper, which has a great benefit for us all.
