Children at St Julian's School in Wellow have received a special visit from the Royal Navy.

As part of their enrichment activities, pupils in Years 5 and 6 were fortunate to meet Scraggy, Dennis and Frenchy – three serving members from Portsmouth.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: "Last Wednesday, we were so lucky to have a visit from Portsmouth Navy. Scraggy, Frenchy and Dennis blew the children away with their activities and knowledge. We had fun programming robots, creating ambulances, generating motors to fly planes and understanding hydraulics and how these work within the Navy.

" We were so grateful for the team in giving up their time and coming to support us with our science and technology work. We look forward to welcoming them back to St. Julián's in the Summer term for some leadership and team-building activities."

The Royal Navy is the UK's naval warfare force. Although warships were used by English and Scottish kings from the early medieval period, the first major maritime engagements were fought in the Hundred Years' War against France. The modern Royal Navy traces its origins to the early 16th century and is the oldest of the UK's armed services. Its personnel also regularly carry out visits to schools to educate children on the work of the Navy, at home and abroad.
