So much more than just a dog-walking space - have YOUR say on the future of Haydon Batch
A stunning local natural area can be so much more - that's the ambition of a local architectural firm who are coming up with ideas of how to transform Haydon Batch in Radstock.
But they need your help to make the transformation the best it can be.
A drop-in session at the Radstock hub is inviting members of the public to see how the reserve, bought by Radstock Town Council in 2019, looks now, and how it could be a vision for the future.
The feedback from this session ( on until 5pm today ) and then again on Saturday, will simply be a guide for any plans. The display boards will remain on site for the next week, while on Sunday there is a guided walk in Haydon (see the poster for details) which will give locals a clearer idea of the scale of the reserve.
The area is already really popular with dog walkers, and the design architect behind the plans is himself a dog walker, but as Andrew King explained it could and should be so much more.
The landscape architect told Nub News : " We were commissioned to produce a masterplan for the site. We will make a draft masterplan (for Haydon) based on the feedback and comments people give us. That will become the blueprint for the town council to follow and they will have to look at how it all gets funded and what the priorities are."
The display in the library shows how Haydon looks today, an area perhaps much bigger than perhaps many locals realise, while on the other boards there are possible ideas of what might come next.
" The whole idea is that we get as much feedback as possible, we need as many people to come and look at it and give their comments. positive and negative. We walk our dog on our batch already but it can be so much more.. please come along and give your opinion," added the architect.
He has a lot of experience having worked with Midsomer Norton Town Council on the Town Park and prior to that on the redesign of the memorial gardens in Radstock itself at the Miners' Wheel.
