The saga of outdoor table tennis coming to Midsomer Norton has become a little clearer.
A new table to is being planned for the Leisure Centre, as a gift from the Town Council. Midsomer Norton Nub News understands that has to be the case so that it can be put onto land owned by Dragonfly. They are planning on some redevelopment of the play area, so the table will not be put up until those details are finalised.
According to council records, a Midsomer Norton resident first requested a Board Game Table - such as the giant chess games you see in some parks - but this was rejected by the Finance and Operations Meeting in April.
But then in June, game back on at the Full Midsomer Norton Town Council when Members "raised the possibility of installing a concrete table tennis table". This seemed to score more highly and the Council resolved to contact Dragonfly Leisure to discuss the installation of an "Amsterdam" concrete table tennis table on the land at the Sports Centre.
Game on again, when in July councillors once again discussed the location, in a confidential session. One resident contacted Nub News to say : " You couldn't make it up! Makes you wonder if they wished they'd just gone with the board games table."
The price is believed to be in the region of £3,000. According to one catalogue Nub News spotted, the table in question is : " Crafted from a state of the art blend of concrete and fiberglass, creating a durable surface perfect for the outdoors! Powder coated steel legs and frame give Amsterdam a stylish, sturdy base." Quite the promise.
Meantime Midsomer Norton Town Council has also bought tennis nets to be used at the new games area in West Clewes. It is hoped that a community available tennis court should be operational later this summer.
