The Midsomer Norton MP writes:

Recently, Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) wrote to me confirming that there are new grants available to help those on a low income with living and energy costs.

B&NES has launched a new scheme whereby low-income households can apply for sums of up to £300.  Constituents who have a combined household income from earnings and pensions of less than £500 per week or are in receipt of income related benefits are able to access a single grant of £200 per household.  This will be rise to £300 when a person receives certain disability allowances and resides in a qualifying household.

In order to qualify for the payment, people need to be in receipt of the following: Universal Credit; Income Support; Pension Credit; Income related Employment Support Allowance; Income based Jobseekers Allowance; Tax Credits; Pension Credit; Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.  They must also have a permanent address in Bath and North East Somerset and have savings and capital under £6,000.

The Council is using its allotment of the Government's Household Support Fund to support the programme. This means that the number of awards that can be made are limited so people are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as payments are made on a first come first served basis.

I am reassured that with the extra funding given by the Government the Council is able to offer this extra support to the most vulnerable.
