The latest from the Radstock MP Jacob Rees Mogg - on his forthcoming move

In his regular column the Midsomer MP writes about his move.

Last year, following the passing of the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 2020 in December 2020 and the publication of the relevant Parliamentary data in January 2021, the Boundary Commission began a new review of all Parliamentary constituencies in England.

Following the consultation, it was announced last June that the electoral boundaries would be redrawn to ensure that the legal requirement of between 69,724 and 77,062 voters in each constituency would be delivered to ensure balance.

Last Friday, I was re-elected by the local Conservative Association to stand in the next election to represent the newly formed North East Somerset and Hanham constituency, which will be a great honour. The new constituency will not include parts of North East Somerset that I currently represent but will absorb other areas to satisfy the Electoral Commission's criteria. 

I will, of course, be extremely sad to lose all towns and villages that I have proudly served since 2010, especially Midsomer Norton where I was baptised in the Catholic Church of the Holy Ghost and which I have known it all my life. However, as I live within the new boundary and the seat retains the greatest percentage of the current North East Somerset constituency it made more sense to apply to stand there.

Please rest assured that I will continue to work hard for you all and represent your interests in Parliament until the next election, which has to be held by January 2025. It has been and continues to be a great privilege to represent North East Somerset.
