The Midsomer Norton MP - this week on housing and what happens if your home is failing

Jacob Rees Mogg MP writes:
This week I have been contacted by the Chairman of the New Homes Quality Board setting out the support that is available to constituents who may have questions around the purchase of their newly built homes.
The New Homes Quality Board (NHQB) was established to provide homebuyers with greater assurance and confidence when they purchase a newly built property and to hold developers directly to account. This is in response to some serious failures by house builders to correct faults in their properties.
The New Homes Quality Code is a definitive code of practice for the house-building industry and has been established to guarantee the quality of newly built properties and strengthen customer protection.
The New Homes Quality Code and its independent New Homes Ombudsman were launched in late 2022. Nearly 200 developers are now registered, including virtually all of the large and medium house builders. This means that almost 80% of all new homes built annually in England, Scotland and Wales will be protected.
The New Homes Ombudsman Service (NHOS) has been set up to help people resolve problems with their newly built homes which the registered developer has failed to fix. It covers the period from the initial marketing of the property to after-sales and complaints management for issues during the first two years of ownership. This includes complaints around reservation, legal completion and the complaints management process as well as minor defects which may occur at or after moving in. More details of the support available can be found on the NHQB website: https://www.nhqb.org.uk/
If you are a constituent and need to contact me about an issue or for assistance I am here to help. Constituents can contact my office by email: [email protected]. Details of how to book an appointment at one of my surgeries, or of how to contact me, can also be found on my website: www.jacobreesmogg.com
