A group of supportive friends from the local area, including one from the local estate agents have joined forces to raise money for a charity which helps prevent male suicide.

A week into their incredible challenge the group have already clocked up 226 miles, running cycling and walking and are well on the way to their target mileage of 672 raising over £1,600 so far.

The friends include Frome footballer Martin Lenihan, and Jordan Bryant who works for the local estate agency and who normally meet up once a week.

They call themselves the TC group - the Thursday Club - a group of mates who have been meeting up for a chat and get together for nearly six years.

But while they have that support, many men do not, and so they are raising money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) which offers a prevention helpline and campaign for those having suicidal thoughts.

Suicide is sadly the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.

It costs CALM £8 to take a call from someone who needs a listening ear and just over £400 to train someone to take those calls and their prevention rates are impressive.

One of those taking part is Jordan Bryant of Sam Chivers Estate Agents who said : " We set a target of £1,000 to hypothetically cover two staff training and multiple calls. We hit the target in under 24 hours…crazy! But we are wanting to see how far we can go with the funding whilst pushing ourselves physically as well. "

On the site Frome's footballer Martin Lenihan writes : " The more we can get people talking about this and raising money to help the charity to continue to do the great work they are already doing."

Taking part in the team are Richard Perrott, Martin Lenihan, Matt Johnson, Matt Le Corre, Ben Winsley, Dan Riddle, Jordan Bryant, Ashley Goodridge and Joe Ford
