Tumble Dryer Fire at Gurney Slade, Wells

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call reporting a fire at the above location.

Blue watch control immediately mobilised two fire appliances from Shepton Mallet, one fire appliance from Wells and a duty officer to attend this incident.

On arrival the incident commander confirmed a tumble dryer on fire within the property. Crews got to work with two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, thermal imaging camera and a safety jet to extinguish the fire.   

The crews promptly extinguished the fire and started to ventilate the property using four breathing apparatus and a positive pressure ventilation fan.

The utility room where the tumble dryer was situated in was twenty percent fire damaged and a hundred percent damaged by the smoke.

The cause of the fire was believed to be accidental
