Midsomer Norton Community Trust has announced that it will be launching a warm space initiative this winter. Unit 14 (opposite South Road Car Park and next to the Green Shop) will be opening its doors to the public every Saturday from 11am to 2pm.
Each week there will be a different activity open to people of all ages and abilities, run by local artists and community groups. Creative activities will be accompanied by hot drinks and snacks, WiFi and device charging, books and magazines to read, and resources to help you save on your bills this winter. Everything is completely free to everyone and you don't need to book, although arts materials may be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The series launches on 12th November with a lantern-making workshop. Create your very own battery-powered lantern from recycled materials and use it to brighten up your home - or even take it along to Midsomer Norton Carnival! Later in the series you will be able to print a postcard on a vintage letterpress, make a straw star for Christmas, help design a new bench for the Town Centre, and more.
Midsomer Norton Community Trust's Engagement Coordinator, Beth Whalley, said:
"The Community Trust is so lucky to have a wonderful space to share with Midsomer Norton this winter. We know that times are incredibly difficult, but we hope that our weekly activities will bring joy to our community.
We certainly couldn't do all this without a host of enthusiastic volunteers ready to get stuck in, but we could always do with an extra pair of hands to welcome visitors and make hot drinks! If you think this could be you – please get in touch."
The programme is being run by Midsomer Norton Community Trust, with funding from Midsomer Norton Town Council and Midsomer Norton Cultural Programme. The Cultural Programme is part of the Midsomer Norton High Street Heritage Action Zone, funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council and Historic England.
A programme of activities will be available to download from www.midsomernortoncommunitytrust.co.uk and www.yourmidsomernorton.co.uk. If you are interested in volunteering for the programme, contact [email protected].
