Works appears to be going on apace within Midsomer Norton Town Hall - and the attached plans for rejuvenation of the Island in the town. That includes making a vibrant space which will be attractive as a market and appealing to businesses.

However turning Midsomer Norton back into a commercial centre could be troublesome with several of the empty shops and stores still vacant further along the High Street after months on the open market. Nub News also understands that the shopping and cafe arcade Holly Court did not sell at the recent auction.

There were certainly no bids registered to the most-recent on line auction on November 23, although ten people were recorded as watching the auction.

There are also questions about who represents the trade in Midsomer since the Chamber of Commerce address is given as the Town Hall, which is obviously currently closed. Nub News has contacted the Somer Valley Chamber to find out what is the status of the organisation which is stated on the Heritage Action Zone site as being in the process of being wound down.

Midsomer Norton Nub News is hoping to get a look at the interior of the hall works within the next few days,

When it was announced how much funding had been agreed from the West of England towards the project Dan Norris, the Metro Mayor of the West of England, said: "Our high streets are not just the centre of our towns, but an important part of how we live, work and share our everyday lives. They are where people meet old friends, receive a smile or a kind word. That is why regenerating our high streets and town centres is absolutely essential to the work of the West of England Combined Authority which I lead. This funding really will transform the lives of local people, spreading jobs and opportunities and giving the people of Midsomer Norton a high street that matches up to its rich history and bright future."
