It's been a very busy weekend for Radstock's Somer Athletics Club, with their runners busy across the UK and further afield.

Spring sunshine propelled Lillie Bleasdale to a stunning 5km run at the Podium event in Leicester. further north, Somer's Youth athletes Owen and Rhys proudly donned county vests as they represented Avon and Somerset respectively at the National Schools XC Championships in Pontefract.

Going slightly better was Somer member and coach, Richard Maddock, who wore the Great Britain vest at the European Indoor Masters Athletics Champs in Poland.

Down in Devon, six runners embarked on the tough Grizzly race, and the smaller distance Cub, down in Seaton where brutal climbs were rewards by stunning cliff top views.

Meanwhile, the Mendips provided a similar challenge as runners tackled The Big Cheese with recent rains delivering a mudfest.

The biggest event was the most local, with the club having several Bath Half Marathon participants, completing two laps around the historic city culminating in the short sharp hill to the finish. It was yet another weekend where Somer athletes' training and hard work were rewarded with some stunning performances.

If you're interested in improving your running, Somer would love to help.

They meet every Tuesday and Thursday at Norton Hill School, and can be contacted at [email protected] or via their Facebook and Instagram pages.
