On Sunday 1st October we had the pleasure of giving BANES Vice Chair Cllr Karen Walker and Cllr Gavin Heathcote a tour of the Paulton end of the Coal Canal.

The timing coincided with a work party that were clearing the Historic Dry Dock, so they got a real feel for the volunteer led work that goes on at our canal. Derrick Hunt, Chairman of Somersetshire Coal Canal Society (SCCS), hosted the Paulton tour and filled them in with the history of our canal.

To give Karen the full picture of our canal, we then hosted a similar tour on Tuesday 3rd October at Combe Hay Locks during the work party there. Martin Turner, Secretary of Somersetshire Coal Canal Society (SCCS), hosted the Combe Hay Locks tour.

Karen is embarking on a six month tour of community groups, projects, businesses and charities, across the local authority as part of an initiative to support rural communities around the local authority.
