Brief update on Somersetshire Coal Canal Society progress at Paulton Basin

Just a brief update to keep you in the loop of what's been happening down at the Coal Canal.

We've not been able to do much building work over the winter months because lime mortar does not set in cold weather.

Our stonemasons have been preparing and sorting the good stone for Terminus Bridge abutment walls ready for when the weather improves.

Paulton Work Parties have now moved to weekly, every Sunday from 10am onwards.

Why don't you come down and volunteer with us?

Work Parties are a great way to meet new people, get out in our beautiful countryside, and they act like a free green gym too! Get in touch if you'd like to know more - [email protected] or call Stu on 07759 336864.

We have focused on clearing the edges of Paulton basin recently and clearing some of the old reeds that are blocking the water flow and wildlife from moving freely.

We're leaving plenty of reeds in the water ready for the wildlife to return in the spring.

You may have noticed we've had to take the rotten tree down next to the Dry Dock Bridge due to the increased risk of it falling down and either hurting a passer-by or damaging the bridge.

A huge thank you to Will Rich of ARB Environmental, a local tree surgeon for carrying out the work for us completely free of charge. If you need a tree surgeon, contact him for help.

He's a lovely chap and very professional.
