Midsomer Norton is seeped in history and it is often when a planning application comes in that unusual heritage is revealed.

So it is the case with an application to repair the shop front at number 11 on the High Street currently a popular deli and sandwich bar.

The building is Grade II listed and dates back until 1700 so any changes must be carefully documented.

As you can see the shop was The Jersey Dairy Cafe in Midsomer Norton

Plans are in to B&NES to restore and repair the shop front, which architectural agents say is partly made up of a plastic fascia which they describe as " insensitive " . The existing timber window and sills are rotten and the single pane large window is not original, so the application wants to match the windows back to the neighbouring building, the so-called host, which was originally one whole building. The bowed shop window of the current model shop date from this original time.

Known locally as Jersey Stores the building was built around 1700 and once belonged to Christ Church College, Oxford. They were also owners of the Midsomer Norton Catholic Church.

The shops are no longer owned by the university and have been sold on many times.

Owner of the Pure Taste business Dan Newman told Nub News : " We're happy to be involved with the regeneration and making changes and improvements to our shop front to fit it with what is planned - returning to a more traditional looking High Street. We are excited with what is planned with our shop front and the high street in general which we hope will bring much needed additional foot fall to the high street. "

You can see all the planning details under 23/04096/FUL on the B&NES planning site proposals which architects say will "significantly improve the heritage asset."

The elite universities Oxford and Cambridge still own huge pieces of real estate in the UK, including the 02 Arena, worth many billions of pounds. These are some of the details HERE
