Artist Kate Lynch spent three years documenting the traditional craftspeople across Somerset, now she is bringing the stories of their work and their legacy to the land, at a special event to support the museum.

Kate, who is based in Langport, documented 30 crafts people in the project, collecting their stories, hearing them talk about their life working in a craft once rooted deep in Somerset history, and seeing their tools and processes. She then painted them using oils and locally grown willow charcoal.

You can hear more next Tuesday 7th March 2023, 7:30pm, at the Somer Centre, Midsomer Norton.

THE OLD CRAFTS OF SOMERSET is the title of the Radstock's Museum's Bygone Days Illustrated History Talk.

Kate will also be bringing copies of her book ' Craft, Paintings, Drawings and Somerset Voices' , which will be available to buy after the talk at a discount to those attending. This is Kate's fourth documentary project celebrating rural work in Somerset.

Kate added : " My talk is illustrated and I introduce the craftspeople and the age-old work they do. I bring with me many of the artefacts – bell ropes, hand-made brushes and riddles, horse-hair fabric and hand made paper - from this project.

"In my other projects I documented Somerset willow growers and basket makers, shepherds and people working with wool, Somerset beekeepers and many small farmers. "

You can find out more about Kate's work HERE

The talk is priced at £5 and there will also be a raffle £1 per strip with all proceeds to support Somerset Coalfield Life at Radstock Museum.
