2020 : That was quite a year Midsomer Norton

By Susie Watkins 31st Dec 2020

While the year has been marked by divisions and disagreements at international and national level - what everyone can agree is that 2020 has been quite a year.

The coronavirus pandemic has meant a huge change in how we live our lives, not just in Midsomer Norton but across a wider Somerset.

But aside from the ravages from coronavirus, 2020 has been an eventful one in BA3 and Midsomer Norton Nub News has been proud to be reporting the highs, and the lows, the good and the bad.

First of all we were the first news outlet to reveal how much funding Midsomer Norton is to get as part of plans to revive the heritage High Street. You can read those details HERE the Nub News site

and in 2021 work should begin.

Work that is nearly done, all the development along Silver Street. It was a bane for motorists but the road has now re-opened and children, assuming they are allowed under coronavirus restrictions, should be sitting down at their new desks in early January. You can read our planning news update about that by clicking HERE. the Nub News site

Other developments : The Town Park is coming to completion. It may not be wildly popular with all but it is certainly looking very swanky. After some initial resistance a remodelling of the river through the centre of Midsomer was completed and most agreed it made the heart of Midsomer look a lot more attractive, although the beasts which made their home there, including the invasive crayfish, were perhaps less welcome. the Nub News site

Something else not welcome, plans for a gas generator scheme on the edge of Midsomer. People power from local residents saw that off (at least for now) when the decision was delegated during coronavirus lockdown. You can read about the campaign by clicking HERE : the Nub News site

And you may see a lot more of the activists involved in 2021 as they have indicated that they may stand for election for the Town Council.

Bad commercial news a big employer Dickies will be closing up in 2021, in spite of a huge wave of pre Christmas orders. In more positive news the High Street now has a butcher, although it was a loss felt keenly in Radstock.

So Midsomer Norton with its unique High Street heads into 2021 with a lot of plans in place. And here at Nub News we hope we will be keeping you all up to date with all of them. Meantime we wish you a happy and most importantly healthy, start to the New Year.
