Avon and Somerset police have sent a huge thank you to the staff at the recycling centre in Midsomer Norton who showed such honesty and made a Burham-on-Sea couple's Christmas a little better than expected.

The story begins last month when staff at the centre in Wellow Brook spotted a box which had been left for recycling. When they checked they were more than a little surprised to discover what was inside the box, and it certainly wasn't rubbish.

They contacted the police, who, using CCTV tracked down the family who had dropped off the box. After some investigations to ensure that it was all genuine, the couple who had visited the centre were re-united with one of their relatives savings. They had been clearing out the house and had thought it was stuff to throw away - but in amongst the things they didn't need - £15,000 in cash.

The police want to thank everyone involved for ensuring that the money was returned.
