An immense effort : Radstock's football has a bright future thanks to overwhelming hard work - but are there new players on the cards?

By Susie Watkins 12th May 2020

Radstock Town Football Club has a nearly-there brand spanking new skittle alley, thanks to what the chairman has called " an immense effort" from club members, players and their families, who have all been lending a hand.

And with the new look social area - a tantalising slip that the future of the team could also be in for some surprises, with some well-known local names joining the team.

"Hopefully we may gain a name or two if we can get playing... but I can't tell you that I would have to kill you !!" Simon warned Nub News.

But Simon did reveal that some players who have played with The Miners in the past have show an interest in coming back.

" But until they sign on the dotted line, as they say, my lips are sealed."

Simon told Nub News that he can't thank those responsible for the transformation of the skittle alley enough.

" To do it socially distancing as well." said Simon, " I have popped my head in the door a couple of times, and then gone out on the pitch to keep out the way. It's not my forte decorating and renovations."

There is still work to do - but it is already looking darts and skittle ready. The electricians needs to come in, there needs to be a little more plastering, but with another new window the space is working well. The team will not just welcome back the local skittle fans, but the ladies darts club, and of course, all the team supporters.

It is he told Nub News : " A massive, massive, massive thanks to everybody - there are too many names to mention. I am over the moon."

The list of those working extra time for the club is certainly long:

Rich Bowring, Charlie Cook, Craig Button, Russell Beverage, Ange Kingman, Nathan Townsend, Sam Ellis, and not forgetting the treasurer Shelly Seymour, and Danielle and Lucy.

If he has forgotten any shout outs Simon says he is sorry.

So when will play resume?

Simon said: " I am working on the basis that the Western League won't resume, UNTIL people can use their social club. Because you would lose money hand over fist otherwise. Ok you would take money at the gates and maybe do a draw, you could stand outside two metres from everyone and have a cup of coffee, but football is a social occasion as well as a sporting occasion. We need the social part."

Simon said: " It has been a phenomenal effort by all involved in here (the club house). I can't thank them enough for the effort they have put in. I love it."

One of the oldest football club's in the UK, Radstock Football Club, sent out a practical appeal for help of any kind to help it back into the season.
