A campaign to recruit care workers across Bath and North East Somerset has been boosted by a series of films which reveal the real-life experiences of people working in the sector.

The minute long films have been specially commissioned to encourage people to consider a career in adult social care and explore the opportunities available by visiting proudtocare.bathnes.gov.uk

In the films, which can be viewed on Youtube and social media, care workers talk candidly about their jobs and benefits of their chosen career.

Harriet is an Extra Care shift leader. She said: "I love my job because it's a good amount of responsibility and its fast paced, so I'm always busy and I feel like I'm really doing something important."

Victor was employed as a chef before switching careers to become a care worker. He said: "Doing this job I can have more work life balance, have some weekend's off and spend time with my family. I love my job. I like the feeling you are doing something for someone who really needs your help."

With a growing older population, the need for high quality care workers has never been greater. Nationally there are 112,000 vacancies across the adult social care sector and there are hundreds of jobs available locally.

proudtocare.bathnes.gov.uk lists up-to-date vacancies from nursing, caring, hospitality, maintenance and housekeeping, to admin, leadership, catering and corporate roles.

Since its launch two months ago the website has been visited by more than 1600 people.

Councillor Alison Born, Bath & North East Somerset Council's cabinet member for Adults and Council House Building said: "Care workers really do make a difference to people's lives and it can be a really fulfilling and emotionally rewarding career.

"There are lots of different careers in social care depending on what you want to do, who you want to work with and where you'd like to work. You could work in a care home, in the community or in someone's home.

"Whether you are just starting your career in the care sector or are looking to retrain, there are endless opportunities to expand your skills and flourish in your career."
