B&NES Council invites applications for replacement independent non-executive director for housing company

Bath & North East Somerset Council is inviting applications for a new independent non-executive director to serve on the Board of its housing development company Aequus.
The vacancy follows the notification by the current non-executive director, Paull Robathan, that he will be standing down from the Board in March 2022.
Aequus Group was established by the council in 2016 to develop, deliver, own and manage the local authority's private residential property. It consists of Aequus Developments Ltd and Aequus Construction Ltd which are both wholly owned by the council.
Profits generated by Aequus help support vital frontline services provided by the council.
Aequus's non-executive director advises on housing development and related company governance matters and is independent of the council.
Applicants for the role should be able to demonstrate an ability to look objectively at property developments and make balanced judgements based on the evidence provided.
Expertise within a commercial or development setting covering any of the following skill sets is highly desirable: previous non-executive roles, property sales and marketing, private rental market, housing development and construction, local authority companies and company governance.
An annual remuneration of £4,000 per year will be provided. Non-executives are required to attend at least six meetings a year as well as support to the Board when required.
It is important for the Board to protect its objectivity and continue to develop a reputation for impartiality. Candidates will need to demonstrate within their supporting statement and at interview how they have considered and propose to address this.
Aequus' aim is to provide quality private lettings and energy efficient new build homes, that are commercially viable and increase the supply of homes available to the market. Aequus also supports the council's ambition to increase the supply of affordable housing and the repurposing of void and empty properties within the commercial and corporate estate.
For an informal discussion about this role, contact Tim Richens, Managing Director on 01225 395300.
People wishing to apply should send their CV and a short supporting statement to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 23rd February 2022. Interviews will be held on Monday 14th March 2022.
