Members of the 1st Midsomer Norton Cubs have been presented the highest award a Cub can earn, The Chief Scout's Silver Award, by group leader Helen Lear.

To complete it, they needed to earn six Activity Badges of their choosing in addition to all seven of the Challenge Awards encompassing a broad range of skills from teamwork and leadership to cooking and pitching tents. The Chief Scout's Silver Award shows the Cubs have given new things a go, played their part, and stuck it out, even when the going got tough.

Those Cubs now moving up to Scouts can wear the awards on their uniform until earning the Chief Scout's Gold Award which requires completing nine challenge awards and six activity badges.

The awards were presented at the 1st Midsomer Norton Scout Hall on Radstock Road which is currently having its leaky roof repaired after a successful fundraising campaign including support from Midsomer Norton Town Council. Mayor of Midsomer Norton, Cllr Gordon Mackay, was there to see his son Murray receive the award and happily posed for a picture with the winners after.

"The Scout Group is such an important part of our community here in Midsomer Norton and it's great to see the Cubs receiving these awards. It's a really big achievement, and the youngsters should be proud. It was also wonderful to see the staff recognised at the recent Civic awards for the huge voluntary effort they put in."
