Combine harvester on fire in field of crops near Midsomer Norton

UPDATE:- The fire alert was scaled back at around 1700 on Saturday

Fire crews from across the South West are currently battling a blaze in field in Binegar.

Firefighters from 13 stations across the region (Honiton, Bridgwater, Burnham On Sea, Glastonbury, Street, Yeovil, Castle Cary, Cheddar, Frome, Martock, Shepton Mallet and Wells) are attempting to put out the inferno.

There are eight fire engines and other specialist vehicles in attendance, and the crews are using foam reel jets, hose reel jets and other farm machinery to try to damp down and extinguish the flames.

Firefighters gained control of the situation, the the incident was scaled down just before 6pm. A pump returned later in the evening to monitor the situation.
