Nub News was at the cricket today and caught up with Midsomer Norton Cricket Club second team captain Neil Brooks who was playing at Trowbridge.

We asked him: How is it getting back on the crease today? It has been frustrating over the last couple of months?

Yes. Hundred per cent. We are so happy to get out here and have a game today. It has been a long time coming. We have been practising for a few weeks so that got rid of a bit of the frustrations.

We have been netting (practising in the nets) every night which is probably more than they have ever done in their lives.

What about social distancing?

We had small groups to start with in the nets and then it grew to six people, groups of six. We are quite lucky at Midsomer Norton that we have quite a bit of space with our nets. Our coach Jake Rowe has been fantastic getting it all on. He has really helped us.

No leagues either?

We will have a league set-up (for the first team), starting on the 25th of July, I think? I think it is eight teams in a small local league rather than the one we are used to. Second team-wise, I don't know what we are doing but I think everyone has just been looking forward to getting back on the pitch, to be honest.

What about cricket at Midsomer Norton?

It is a good time to be getting back into cricket. It is a good time to become interested again.

There are several ways you can do it. We have run three sides at Midsomer Norton, obviously this year we are not running three sides.

So if anyone is interested, we do nets on a Wednesday and it is a great way to get and keep fit.

Midsomer Norton Cricket is sponsored - as is Nub News - by the local solicitors Thatcher +Hallam. You can read about that sponsorship decision here:the Midsomer Norton Nub News site
