Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership has contacted schools in Frome to ask them for views on plans to expand the additional needs school Critchill.

In a letter sent out to parents in Frome, the CEO of the partnership, explained that they want to increase the number of places at the school from 66 to 80 - and for that to happen by September.

Alun Williams writes that there is an increasing need for special school places in the Frome area, partly due to population growth over time, but also the because of an increasing proportion of pupils presenting with severe or complex needs.

He wrote: " Also that a 66 place special school is relatively small by comparison to other special schools nationally and indeed within and around Somerset. "

With more funding due to a larger number of pupils, the CEO would hope to increase outreach work :" In mainstream schools in the Frome area, within the Midsomer Norton Schools' Partnership and beyond."

The Partnership is submitting a formal application to the regional body which allows such changes.

You can put your views , ask any questions or raise concerns, in writing to Sharon Crane – Trust PA, C/O Somervale School, Redfield Road, Midsomer Norton, BANES. Or email [email protected]

The public consultation is open until July 20.
