Cross about crossings and a campaign to get a safe way to cross a key road in Midsomer Norton

The work has now been completed opposite Norton Hill school in time for the start of the new term.
However, while there is relief that the work, to put in a crossing just past the turning into the school has been completed on schedule, questions remain about why it makes sense.
The lights are just around from a second set of lights crossing by the Heritage Station, while many comments say the school children don't bother with controlled crossings anyway.
One posted: " Cant believe they think its safe to put a crossing so close to a difficult corner and a few yards from another zebra crossing. Apart from it being an accident waiting to happen, traffic won't be going anywhere at school time. "
Buses in particular , as seen by Midsomer Norton Nub News, struggle to navigate around the corner and one resident asked whether they would need to narrow the pavement to let them pass.
Meantime Cllr Gordon Mackay is leading a campaign to get a safer crossing near Ivy Walk and St Chad's Avenue, which he says is particular dangerous for parents trying to take their children to school. Navigating that road is needed for both Midsomer Norton senior schools and the nursery and infant school.
He has started a petition to present to the Highways department here and has produced a video showing the speeds along the road.
