Disputed litter-strewn lane : Not our responsibility say B&NES nor ours say Mendip

A frustrated Midsomer resident is desperately trying to find out who is responsible for Charlton Lane, with B&NES denying they have responsibility.

The problem is that the map shows a boundary runs along part of it, so that both B&NES and neighbouring Mendip are refusing responsibility.

The lane is blighted with litter and now it seems neither council wants to be responsible for the clear up.

According to Sandra Coles who has the support and help from local councillor Eleanor Jackson, the map clearly shows the boundary running down the centre of the road to the sharp right hand bend. The boundary then goes straight on towards Waterside Farm, leaving the whole of the remaining part, both sides, under the responsibility of Mendip.

Resident Sandra Coles said: " It truly is disgusting down that road and it needs to be cleared. Even the farmers are fed up with and cross that the council aren't doing anything about it.

" I could litter pick it myself but it would take an army as there is that much covering every foot of the verge. Been there for years by the look of some of the litter. "

Councillor Jackson is said to be shocked and dismayed and is promising to investigate, but meantime B&NES are adamant that their responsibility ends by the golf club.

The authority boundary runs down the centre of Charlton Lane - all verges to the south from St Benedict's school to the junction with the B3139 is in Mendip. All from the roundabout on the A367 to the sharp right corner next to Waterside Farm, north side is B&NES.

Sandra has said she will keep going as long as it takes to clear the boundary matter up.

She said: " If anyone knows the details of the county surveyor please let me know. I'm not going to let this drop as the amount of litter there could fill a lorry."
