Improvements to public toilet facilities in Midsomer Norton look further away today as Town Councillors consider a feasibility study to create a cycle/pedestrian link in the town, rather than the feasibility of installing public toilets agreed at their Full Council meeting, last September.

Tonight (January 15) , the Finance and Operations Committee will meet at the Hollies to discuss a feasibility study to create a cycle/pedestrian link connecting the Town Trust's land at Withies Lane with the Silver Street Nature Reserve and Five Arches Greenway off Silver Street. The need for the study came about following a meeting between Cllr Gordon Mackay and Sustrans.

Town Mayor, Cllr Mackay, also leads the Strategy Working Group, which was tasked with reviewing the public toilet situation in October last year.

However, meeting minutes from the September Town Council meeting show that the Clerk had been "asked to carry out a feasibility study as to potential locations, cost of installation and maintenance and report back to Council in due course".

When a report was made in October, councillors chose to refer the matter "back to the Town Council Strategy Working Group".

It now appears that the cycle/pedestrian link has become the priority, leaving the future of the public toilet study unclear.
