Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were out today (March 13) for a roof fire at Old Bristol Road in Chewton Mendip.

Fire control immediately mobilised one fire appliance from Cheddar, one fire appliance from Shepton Mallet, One fire appliance from Glastonbury, the aerial ladder platform from Yeovil and a duty officer to attend the incident.

On arrival the incident commander confirmed a chimney fire at the property. The smoke had started to percolate into the loft space and through the tiles of the roof. The fire was confined to the chimney.

Crews promptly got to work with chimney gear to extinguish the fire from the hearth and one hose reel jet from the roof using the aerial ladder platform. The crews monitored the temperature of the chimney using a thermal imaging camera before the incident was declared finished.
